The strength of majestic draft horses again will be paired with the skill of the plowmen guiding them during the 75th annual International Plowing Match in Lynden.
Approximately 15 teams of horses and plowmen are expected for the milestone event. Admission is free. Food trucks will be at the event.
Competitors are judged on various aspects of their plowed lots, including best crown, best finish, best in and out and best firmness and packing. But the International Plowing Match is more about camaraderie than competition, combined with the admiration of onlookers who watch how fields used to be prepared for seeding.
An awards ceremony will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in the Mount Baker Rotary Building (1751 Front St., Lynden). Bill Shagren, Steve VanderYacht and Francois Freyvogel will be inducted into the International Plowing Match’s Hall of Fame.
