Create memories to last a lifetime during this unique intergenerational program for grandparents and grandchildren ages 7-10. You and your grandchild will work side-by-side as you participate in a hands-on course taught by Western faculty.
Citizen Science with a Porpoise
There is so much to discover about our oceans through observation and data collection, and only so many scientists to perform it. Be part of the solution by learning how to be a trained citizen scientist and gather important data on a local marine mammal species. We will learn about food webs of the Salish Sea and challenges faced by top predators feeding in our waters, as well as how to identify local marine mammals we may encounter in preparation for an official data-gathering session from Washington Park.
Physical activity level: Moderate to high; many activities will be conducted outside, including walking on the very rocky intertidal zone and on a rocky bluff trail in Washington Park.
Students are asked to bring:
A rain jacket
A healthy snack
A water bottle
Sunscreen
Good walking shoes/sneakers
A curious mind
