The Jansen Art Center opens the 2018-2019 Concert Series with, “Seasons of Life & Love,” a duo performance by Katie Van Kooten, soprano and Jeffrey Gilliam, piano on Saturday, September 8 at 7:30 p.m.
The operatic and concert appearances of soprano Katie Van Kooten continue to thrill audiences in the United States and abroad. Performing with prestigious symphonies and philharmonic orchestras, Van Kooten’s singing is “extraordinary in its radiance, power and sheer expressiveness” according to the Houston Chronicle. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London she studied voice with Rudolf Piernay and Dr. Jeanne Robison.
Celebrated pianist Jeffrey Gilliam, currently a faculty member at Western Washington University and the Artistic Director of the Sandford-Hill Piano Series, taught at the Juilliard School, the University of Michigan and the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland.
The concert features a delightful diversity of vocal selections including spirituals and favorites from beloved musicals including Carousel, Show Boat, Porgy & Bess and The Wizard of Oz. Gilliam will perform Bolcom’s “Death Moth Tango” and “Debussy Prelude.”
