The Bellingham Chamber Music Society is delighted to present their Valentine’s inspired concert: “Devotion”. Join us for an elegant afternoon in the beautiful Crystal Ballroom of the Hotel Leo sip champagne and listen to classical works that were inspired by painting poetry and dance. The afternoon begins with Alyssa Morris’ musical portraiture Brush Strokes for flute oboe and bassoon and based on Impressionist and Contemporary paintings of Monet Seurat Van Gough and Pollock. Then travel to Venezuela with Santaella’s “A for winds and strings” which is both energetic and poetic, reminding us of shades of Shostakovich Prokofiev and Copeland. You will then be prepared for the main course Brahms’ Quintet for Clarinet and Strings. Brahms came out of retirement to write this piece for clarinetist Richard Muhlfeld after hearing him play. The work features exquisite musical melodies, dark colors, bold singing lines and Hungarian folk idioms.
All are invited to a post concert champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception where you can mingle with the performers and try our signature cocktail the “Brahms Breeze” at our cash bar.
