Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth presents Something in the Stars on February 21-23 at the BAAY Theatre. This original musical, written and produced at BAAY, is a journey about destiny, love, and courage on an early 20th-century steamship. Featuring a full score and a wide range of leading and supporting roles, this unique premiere production of Something in the Stars is student-devised artistry at its best! Tickets and more information at baay.org.

Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth presents The Hobbit on February 28 – March 1 and March 6-8 at the BAAY Theatre. It’s unusual for a modern work to become a classic so quickly, but Tolkien’s “ring” stories, which began with The Hobbit, are in this very special category. They stir the imagination of everyone they touch. Bilbo, one of the most conservative of all Hobbits, is asked to leave his large, roomy, and very dry home in order to set off as chief robber in an attempt to recover an important treasure. BAAY’s production of The Hobbit is performed by a delightful cast of students ages 9-12! Tickets and more information at baay.org.

This spring, Bellingham Repertory Dance (BRD) presents The Long Tide, an evening of contemporary dance. The Long Tide is the force of push and pull that connects all of us. It is a through-line of energetic movement that maps how we flow through the world as individuals, and as a collective whole. After two years of hibernation due to the pandemic, BRD dancers return to the stage for this high-energy performance on April 12 and April 15-17 at the Firehouse Arts and Events Center.
The Long Tide features an eclectic lineup of repertoire, including everything from old favorites to never-before-seen premieres. We are excited to relaunch Michele Miller’s intimate duet Threshold (previously performed by BRD in 2014 and 2017), and the incomparable Jessica Zoller’s momentum-driven We go here, we go there (previously performed by BRD in 2014). New to BRD are Rachel Barker’s riveting and interconnected Parched Chalk // I See You, along with the murmuration-inspired romp Flocks are Flying Avalanches, choreographed by Adele Nickel. Rounding out the evening will be premieres by BRD’s own Soleil Chappelle and Emma Harvey, and a historical dance recreation generated during our Vernacular Jazz residency with Artist-in-Residence, Damian Cade.

I’m writing to put an event on your students radar–it’s an a/v event at a local underground venue, all ages, with sliding scale donation. More info:
“THREE FILMS BY HALI AUTUMN”
Three films constructed and re-worked by Hali Autumn, where neither imagery or sound take precedence. The films will be screened with a live score featuring; Ceremonial Abyss (Portland), Katrena Marie (Olympia), and Identity Theft (Bellingham). The curatorial idea is to not coordinate the imagery and music but to honor the synchronicity in the various unplanned approaches, combining to envelop the room into an immersive environment. One night only!
April 30th, 2022
at Karate Church
519 E Maple St., Bellingham, WA
9pm, sliding scale $7-2

Solo Creature Double Feature: A Two Show Night Of Bizarre Comedy Theatre at The Bellingham Circus Guild
ONE NIGHT ONLY!
Two queer touring artists team up to present thier solo shows on the same night! Come enjoy a night of entertainment like no other – a twisting meandering theatrical journey that spans the anatmical, the apocalyptic, and the whimsical. One ticket. Two shows. Catch them while you can!
1st Show:
ANATOMICA – A Comedy About Meat, Bones, & The Skin You’re In
(Amica Hunter, Portland, OR)
International Comedian & Weird-Lil’-Gremlin, Amica Hunter (of A Little Bit Off), GETS UNDER YOUR SKIN and CRUSHES YOUR FUNNY BONE in this hilarious, captivating, and sometimes-unsettling-comedy about skeletons, and the horrors of living in a body. ANATOMICA is an intimate, unpredictable exploration of pain, zoology, & collective imagination. Every animal has a skeleton – But which biological structural system is the BEST? With candidness and a comfortably casual tone, Amica reviews the three skeletal systems found in earthly organisms and discusses the limitations of each one. What would it be like to inhabit a body completely alien from our classic human form? A gloriously deranged Ted-Talk by a wanna-be-scientist clown school graduate.
Part stand-up, part storytelling, and part clown, ANATOMICA is an investigation of the inadequacies of different animal body models, and a celebration of the absurdity of being trapped in a body that is limited by pain, fatigue, and ultimately decay. But, you know, make it fun!
?????
“Amica Hunter’s stand-up set disguised as a serious science lesson is like the mutant love child of Laurie Anderson and David Attenborough”
-The Edmonton Journal
2nd Show:

Written and performed by life long “Florida Man” and award-winning solo theatermaker Bruce Ryan Costella.
