Ski to Sea

Ski to Sea

First run in 1973, the Ski to Sea is a multi-sport team relay race from the Mount Baker Ski Area to Bellingham Bay. The race is held annually on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend in Whatcom County, Washington. A Ski to Sea team consists of three-eight racers competing in seven different sports: Cross Country Ski, Downhill Ski/Snowboard, Running, Road Bike, Canoe (2 paddlers), Cyclocross Bike, and Sea Kayak. The Race course runs through the towns of Glacier, Maple Falls, Kendall, Everson, Lynden and Ferndale, finishing at Marine Park in the historic Fairhaven district of Bellingham. Together with the Historic Fairhaven Festival, Ski to Sea is the largest one-day event in Whatcom County and Bellingham, drawing racers, spectators, and tourists from the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, and around the country.

WHS Walk on the Wild Side: Human Impacts on Wildlife @ The FireHouse Arts & Events Center

Want to learn how to peacefully co-exist with our wild neighbors through understanding & respect? Join us for an informative series of talks about wildlife native to Whatcom County. Learn how the WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center cares for orphaned and injured wildlife in our community – and how you can help! Presented by Alysha Evans, WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Manager & Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator.
At this presentation we will discuss what you need to know about the deer population in our community and how to humanely co-exist with wild mammals such as deer, raccoons, opossums, squirrels and more.
This 30 minute presentation will be followed by Q&A with our knowledgeable staff.
This event is FREE to attend (RSVP). We will have door prizes as well as no-host food and beverages for you to enjoy!

Join longtime North Cascades Institute instructor Libby Mills to survey spring bird life in the North Cascades region as our feathered friends display fascinating breeding behaviors and share their melodious songs.

We’ll begin our exploration at birding hot spots along the Skagit River Friday morning, and arrive in at the Learning Center by mid afternoon to settle into our rooms. Friday evening we’ll enjoy a presentation on forest song while enjoying a delicious dinner.

On Saturday, we’ll rise with the dawn and bird our way eastward over the North Cascades to explore the arid habitats of the Methow Valley.

We’ll conclude our survey Sunday back on the westside visiting choice locations in the upper valley.

Confident City Cycling Class @ PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center - Cafeteria Conference Room

Join our next Confident City Cycling Class and brush up on skills that make bicycling safe and comfortable. In the classroom, we’ll cover roadway positioning, moving through intersections, choosing good routes, putting your bike on the bus, and more. Then we’ll go for a short ride to test our new skills.

Start your summer right with a biking, hiking, and swimming tour of Orcas Island with Shifting Gears! Our 3-day, 2-night micro-adventure includes scenic ferry rides, hiking or biking Mt Constitution, alpine lake swimming, lunch in Eastsound, camping and soaking tubs at Doe Bay Resort, and of course, local wine and beer!

Tickets are $299 per person and include accommodations, 6 meals and the option of an on-call driver in case you have reached your limit at some point over the weekend.

Worried about having the right gear or the cost of the trip? Have no fear! We’re here to help loan gear, walk you through renting a bicycle for the weekend, or applying for a scholarship in order to participate in this amazing adventure. Salish Wealth Management invites you to kick off summer and celebrate the solstice – The Longest Day 10K – benefiting Teach One to Lead One Whatcom County. With a 7:00 p.m. start, this chip-timed race begins and finishes at Fairhaven Village Green in Bellingham, WA. Space is limited to 500 participants.

BENEFITING:

The entry fee is $30 with $10 from each fee going directly to Teach One to Lead One Whatcom County, so they can continue to grow and reach as many at-risk youth as possible through their proven mentoring program.

THE COURSE:

The Longest Day 10K gives runners a little bit of everything – city and trail running mixed with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest including breath-taking views of the Bellingham waterfront as the solstice sun begins to set.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:

This event is designed for runners and walkers of all levels. The Longest Day 10K is ideal for serious runners looking for a competitive or training race as well as those looking for a fun, unique, and family-friendly event – plus everyone in between! This course is not necessarily wheelchair, assisted wheelchair or stroller friendly. Unfortunately we will not be allowing furry friends of any kinds to run the race with participants.

FUN & SWAG:

In addition to a cool swag bag packed with goodies, each registration includes a blue race tech t-shirt and medal at no extra charge!
