100+ Women of Whatcom is a group of women who cares about the Whatcom community. The group gathers two times a year for a one-hour meeting, and each member writes a $100 check to a charity that the group selects. This combined donation of $10,000+ makes a real impact, without time-consuming fundraising events and planning. We hope you will join us at our next meeting to see how easy and fun it is! Wine, beer and light refreshments will be available.

100+ Women of Whatcom are hosting our second event – the Spring Gathering will be held at the YWCA Ballroom in Bellingham and wine and light refreshments will be served. At our inaugural event in fall 2015, our members donated over $7000 to DVSAS and we look forward to making a $10,000+ impact to another deserving local-serving organization in April.

Help take a bite out of need with an evening full of engagement! We have all seen the hit show Shark Tank. Well, we are putting our own spin on it. Instead of showcasing inventors, we have our Top 10 Local Non-Profits eager to impress you with what they do. Each will have a booth and will take a few moments to explain how they need our partnership. Instead of Sharks (investors), we have Thrivent Members with unused Community Action Teams and funds that are begging for a Non-Profit to support.
Lynette Morgan from Praise 106.5 will be keeping our evening moving while you enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages, visit booths, and hear how you can change the world during this fast paced event. Thrivent Members will have the opportunity to direct Thrivent Choice Dollars, sign up your Action Teams, and choose how you want to impact others. Non-members will be able to discover how to help their favorite charity, be introduced to some of the most generous people in Whatcom County and find out how Thrivent combines Faith and Finances for doing good in our community.

These products can be very expensive and are seldom donated compared to food products or clothing. So, let’s help our local shelters out by stocking up on pads, tampons and other feminine hygiene products!

The Whatcom Literacy Council will host the annual Literacy Breakfast with Nancy Pearl Thursday, November 2 from 7:15 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. at Bellingham Technical College’s Settlemyer Hall. An $11 registration (available via the website www.whatcomliteracy.org) will be required to reserve a seat. This event typically sells out over a month in advance, so early registration is advised.
Since 1983, the Whatcom Literacy Council has helped hundreds of adults in Whatcom County transform their lives by strengthening their literacy skills with free tutoring and small group classes. Proceeds from the event go directly to programs that help our neighbors here in Whatcom County build skills that help them get jobs and take care of their families. This year the witty and wonderful Nancy Pearl, NPR commentator and author of Book Lust, More Book Lust, Book Crush, Book Lust To Go and, most recently, a novel called George and Lizzie, will return to share her thoughts on some of the best reads available. Village Books will be on hand to sell Nancy’s recommendations.
This is a fundraiser for the adult literacy programs offered by the Whatcom Literacy Council. It is expected that guests will make a donation at the event.

Looking for a local nonprofit to support this holiday season? Million Waves Project turns recycled ocean plastic into 3D printed prosthetics.
MOD Pizza’s Bellingham location will be donating 20% to the Million Waves Project all day on December 6 for any customer who asks!
The Million Waves Project brings together two unacceptable global issues and provides a sustainable and smart solution. We take recycled plastic cleaned from the ocean and turn it into 3D printable material to create prosthetic arms and hands for children and individuals who cannot afford them or do not have access to them. Each hand or arm only takes about 30 plastic water bottles to make and costs $45-$110 to size, print and deliver.
By getting your friends and family together at MOD Pizza on December 6 and requesting 20% of your order to go towards Million Waves Project, you could be the reason a child will be receiving a brand new prosthetic arm this holiday season. Show the flyer or mention Million Waves Project when you order to donate a portion of your bill.
100% of proceeds go toward printing materials, shipping, sizing and the creation of the prosthetic.
If you’re joining us at MOD Pizza on December 6th, please RSVP on https://www.groupraise.com/events/78784

Local farmers are at the heart of our food system. And yet, the barriers that they face are staggering, especially for marginalized growers. From finding and affording land to keeping it productive and resilient in the face of climate change, local farmers need our support now more than ever. That’s why Washington Farmland Trust and Viva Farms are teaming up for the second year in a row on a virtual benefit concert to support a resilient, equitable future for farming. Join us for an evening of inspiration, music, and community as we aim to raise $330,000 for local farms. Featured artists include The Decemberists, True Loves, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Whitney Mongé, and Sera Cahoone.
