Shelf-Conscious: A Peak Inside the Artist’s Journal @ Make.Shift Art Space | Bellingham | Washington | United States

Ever wanted to understand the secret inner-workings of your local artists and writers?
Join us at Make.Shift for the opening of Shelf-Conscious: A Peak Inside the Artist’s Journal. In Decemember 2017, Make.Shift released an open invitation to artists and writers in the
community to display their journals, diaries and sketchbooks. The exhibit, opening on First
Friday Art Walk in February, will feature an array of formats, including pre-made mini-journals designed and distributed by Make.Shift volunteers. A segment of the gallery will be dedicated to an intimate and interactive bedroom installation designed by Make.Shift volunteers and community artists. For anyone who would like to participate, there’s still time! Journal submissions are due Saturday January 27 at 12:00 p.m. Don’t have a journal to display? There will also be a “secret diary” open mic at the opening on Art Walk Friday! Sign-ups begin at 6:30 p.m. and performances will start at 7 p.m.

For more information about submission guidelines, Art Walk or Make.Shift please visit
our website at makeshiftproject.com/gallery or contact the gallery director, Jessyca Murphy at gallery@makeshiftproject.com.

Author Visit: The Heartbreaks & Triumphs of a Long Distance Knitter @ Blaine Library | Blaine | Washington | United States

In “Skein: The Heartbreaks & Triumphs of a Long Distance Knitter,” author Christen Mattix recounts how she stumbled upon an unusual way of meeting her Fairhaven neighbors when she decided to knit a half-mile blue rope from a public bench to Bellingham Bay. During those three and a half years of knitting at the bench, Mattix meets her loveable and quirky neighbors, visits a Trappist Monastery, falls in love and transforms from introverted artist to a catalyst for community connections.

Books and Brews: April - Lynden @ Overflow Taps - Lynden

Our first ever Books and Brews was a success and we are happy to introduce April’s read: “B is for Beer,” by Tom Robbins.

Overflow Taps and Village Books in Lynden have partnered for a monthly book club for 2019. Each month we will read a new book picked by Village Books and Overflow Taps will pick a featured beverage to pair.

On the 4th Tuesday of each month, we will meet at Overflow Taps at 7 pm to casually discuss the book and share a pint!

April book group discussion host: Chuck Robinson, founder, Village Book and Paper Dreams, Lynden community member

Pick up your copy of “B is for Beer” by Tom Robins at Village Books then mosey on over to Overflow Taps Lynden for a Books and Brews growler (free with the purchase of a fill)!

Feb 9 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
February Book Club (sort of) @ Thousand Acre Cider House

*** Due to the January snowstorm, a lot of you have let us know that you were unable to make it to book club! Due to the overwhelming response, we have decided to just repeat January’s book in February. Here’s hoping for better weather this time around. Tell your friends that they now have another month to finish the book! Let’s make this a book club to remember! ***

Start the new year off right with a resolution to read and meet new friends! Our good friend Hayley Horne got us started last year with our Sunday Book Club gatherings and we are excited to keep the ritual going after the holidays. Here’s how it works:

1) Get pumped to read ‘Before We Were Yours’ by Lisa Wingate

2) You read/listen/skim/watch the movie in the comfort of your home…or a cozy cider bar downtown 🙂

3) Show up FEBRUARY 9th around the fire table ready to meet your fellow bookworms over a cider.

Looking forward to our next book and discussing it with all you cider loving readers!
