Whatcom Literacy Council’s TRIVIA BEE & Silent Auction @ BTC's Settlemyer Hall

Whatcom Literacy Council will be hosting the 23rd Annual TRIVIA BEE & Silent Auction on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Bellingham Technical College’s Settlemyer Hall in Campus Center.

Join co-hosts Scotty VanDryver of KAFE Radio and Jeopardy! star Ken Jennings and match wits with other members of the community. 32 teams, sponsored by local businesses, will compete against each other in four qualifying rounds leading up to the final round with eight teams. The winner goes home with the traveling “Totten Trophy.” There is an award for the best CHEER section of the audience.

The evening begins with a silent auction at 6:00 p.m., with items donated by local businesses, and the Trivia Bee competition starts promptly at 7:00 p.m. This year there will be a cash bar with beer and wine, as well as cookies, coffee and slices of pizza available for donation.

All proceeds go to support the Whatcom Literacy Council’s free literacy programs for adults here in Whatcom County.

Contact events@whatcomliteracy.org to find out how to register a team($750 for a Corporate Team, $375 for a Self-Sponsored team.) CHEER tickets cost $15 per person, and will be available at Village Books, or at the door.

Time For A Change @ Mount Baker Theatre

Join the National Alliance on Mental Illness for a night of dance and music! “Time For a Change” is a collection of more than 60 of Bellingham’s best local performers, including both professionals and amateurs. The event will feature contemporary dance, A Capella songs, and chamber string and wind ensembles. In addition, several guest speakers (including a pediatric psychiatrist from PeaceHealth) will be giving presentations as part of the event with information about eradicating stigma and promoting mental health awareness.

All proceeds go to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

Growing Veterans Annual Plant Sale @ Bellewood Acres

Growing Veterans Annual Plant Sale – Huge selection of organic plants starts, grown locally by veterans. Large variety of heirloom and organic tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, onion, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, herbs and more. Bellewood Acres will have family fun activities all weekend including Easter egg hunt, petting zoo, Easter bunny, brunch and more. All proceeds from the plant sale help support Growing Veterans dirt therapy programs.

17th annual Bocce Ball Tournament @ Bellingham Sportsplex

This tournament, which benefits the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, has become a spectator extravaganza, bringing people from across the region to cheer on teams! Along with the BBQ and beer garden, the event also includes music, a bounce house, face painting, kid’s activities, and more! Bring friends and family to enjoy the festivities.

Lunch: Salmon BBQ tickets are available for $10.00. Other concessions will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, (WDRC).

Beer Garden: The Boundary Bay Brewery Beer Garden will serve beer beginning at 10 AM for $5. The beer garden is next to the courts (a great place for friends and family to cheer on the action). All alcohol must be consumed within the beer garden. The City of Bellingham has strict regulations regarding alcohol consumption. Help us ensure that we can continue to host the tournament by adhering to this policy.

Raffle: This year we’ll be raffling off exciting prizes throughout the day, including gift certificates to local breweries, tool kits from Bellingham Cold Storage, tickets to the Northwest Washington Fair and the Demolition Derby, and more! Raffle tickets are $1 each and will be available at the concessions table.

Come join us on the afternoon of Saturday 4/20 for a fun and family-friendly Easter egg hunt! We’ll have hunts for all age groups. Bring your furry friends for a doggie treat hunt too. We’ll have face painting, balloon art, a photo booth, and more.

This event supports the Sunnyland PTA, and they will be on hand to accept donations. Admission is free and open to all, so hop on down to Twin Sisters for a fun family gathering!

Considered one of the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festivals, these films combine beautiful cinematography and first-rate storytelling to inform, inspire and ignite possibilities to restore the earth and human communities while creating a positive future for us all.

Boys & Girls Club Inspire Higher Dreams Gala @ Silver Reef Casino

BP presents the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County’s 5th annual Inspire Higher Dreams Gala & Auction. The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. on April 26, 2019 at the Event Center at Silver Reef. Tickets are available on whatcomclubs.org for $150 per person.

Guests will enjoy a plated dinner, silent and live auction, dessert dash and after-party with SpaceBand. The Gala is a formal event and formal attire is encouraged.

We Are Skookum Scavenger Hunt @ Perch & Play

In partnership with Bank of the Pacific, the Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Bellingham Partnership, we’re hosting the first annual We Are Skookum Scavenger Hunt on April 27 & 28. From 10a – 2p, beginning at Perch & Play, teams of 1 to 20 will collect stamps at partner-businesses and Bellingham landmarks in Downtown Bellingham and Squalicum Harbor. The stops and prizes are different Saturday vs. Sunday so do it one or both days. Registration is free for the weekend and includes capes, discounts at various participating businesses, and admission to our after-party at 2p on Sunday, April 28.
