Naturalist Hike – Botany of the Bluffs with Northwest Natura

Please join Jazmen Yoder, botanist and Salish Sea naturalist on a hike around the bluffs to identify and talk about the cultural and natural history of wildflowers found in these rare prairie ecosystems.

On this guided walk/hike you will learn how to identify plants, plant families, wildlife sign, fungi we may find, and land stewardship practices through discussions on ethnobotany (the study of relationships between native plants and indigenous peoples).

We’ll stop for a gander at the sea, hoping to spot marine mammals, birds, or special plants along the ophiolite bedrock before we set out for a lollipop loop hike around the edges of the park, high on the bluffs with excellent views.

This is a naturalist “hike” but with a lot of stopping for close observation and photo ops – expect some uphill, narrow uneven trailways at times, and summer heat.

This course aims to focus on plants but also will include lessons in wildlife ID, track & sign, fungi if we find them, and natural history of the PNW.
