The Koma Kulshan Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society is holding their January meeting. Join virtually for a presentation from Miles Berkey entitled Bryophytes as Windows Into Past Climates and Present Landscapes. For many botanists, bryophytes are an infamous group—tiny, taxonomically intricate, and often frustratingly subtle in their morphology. Yet beyond the tedious microscopy and myriad of taxonomic keys, bryophytes offer a unique insight into the environmental nuances of a landscape and the historical forces that shaped its flora. In this talk, Miles Berkey will give a brief introduction to bryophytes, provide an overview of their biology, and explore how past climatic patterns have influenced their present-day distributions. Prior registration is required for this virtual event.
