The Whatcom Family YMCA has launched its annual Community Support Campaign to deliver on its commitment of ensuring every person in Whatcom County has access to the programs, support, and connections they need to thrive.

This spring, the Y will engage 75 campaigners – including board members and volunteers – to raise $100,000 by May 18th. This campaign is part of the Y’s broader, community-driven effort to generate more than $650,000 by the end of the year. These funds will expand access to critical programs that strengthen families, support youth development and working parents, and create opportunities for people of all ages.

Each year, the Y provides financial assistance to help remove barriers to participation, making it possible for individuals and families to access childcare, swim lessons, youth sports, teen programs, and wellness initiatives regardless of ability to pay. In 2025 alone, we awarded $615,000 in scholarships, supporting approximately one in every ten Y program participants and members.

Through this collective investment, the Y continues to deliver measurable impact across Whatcom County. In 2025 alone:

  • 880+ youth supported through before and after school programs
  • 1,097 youth and adults learned how to swim and basic safety around water
  • 1,278 youth engaged in sports and recreation
  • 668 kids experienced camp
  • 467 teens found a safe, supportive place to belong
  • 1,210 older adults stayed active and connected
  • 3,200 food boxes delivered weekly to local households
  • Continued to be the largest licensed childcare provider in the county with three early learning centers and 21 before and afterschool sites

“At the Y, we see every day how access to supportive programs and a sense of belonging can shape someone’s future,” said Kait Whiteside, Director of Advancement and Impact at the Whatcom Family YMCA. “Thanks to the generosity of our donors and partners, we’re able to turn community support into real, lasting impact for thousands of people each year.”

As the cost of living continues to rise across the region, more families struggle to make ends meet and are forced to make impossible choices. The Y is responding by expanding equitable access to programs and strengthening the network of support that helps individuals and families thrive.

Funds raised through the campaign stay local and directly support Whatcom County residents, helping build a more connected and resilient community.

“This is about neighbors helping neighbors,” said Courtney Whitaker, Whatcom Family YMCA’s CEO. “When you give to the Y, you are investing in real people and real stories right here in our community.”

Community members can support the campaign by donating, partnering as a sponsor, or sharing their Y story.
