The Chrysalis Inn & Spa sits on the picturesque shores of Bellingham Bay, a homey hotspot for locals and visitors alike known for its consistent quality and extraordinary service. The Chrysalis’ success is undoubtedly due to the character and work ethic of the individuals who run it. Each and every employee at The Chrysalis is dedicated to their craft and making guests as comfortable as possible. A long-time employee in the spa, Caitlin Timm, is a gold-standard esthetician who loves her career and the stunning county we call home.

From Stay-At-Home Mom to Empty Nester

Caitlin was born in Bellingham, moved to Camano Island as a young girl, and then relocated back to Whatcom when she had her son.

“I was a stay-at-home mom,” she says. “I realized when he was getting a little bit older, I needed something of my own, and I decided to try [esthetics] on a whim.”

Timm ended up thoroughly enjoying the craft and continues working for The Chrysalis, even after 11 years. “It was my first esthetics gig,” she says. “I stayed because I love my job; I love the connections I make — it’s a really special moment when you get to make someone feel loved and beautiful.”

Timm enjoys life to its fullest, especially everyday moments with friends and family. “I like to eat delicious food, I love to travel, and I love to find the ocean any chance I can,” she says. “I’m a mother to a 19-year-old son who takes most of my time — or used to — and now I am an empty nester, so I’m home a lot with my pets. I love to host my family and friends, and I love a good book and playing in my garden.”

At The Chrysalis

Caitlin has been a consistent presence at The Chrysalis for the past 11½ years, working up from a first-time esthetician to now managing the group.

“There are eight members on our team, and I run our esthetics department,” she says. “We’ve got a pretty good team right now — probably our best. I would say I’m excited by all of them, and we’re thriving as a whole.”

Timm has many different responsibilities at The Chrysalis. Alongside planning specials and keeping up to date on services, she also runs scheduling for her department, orders products, organizes deliveries, and more.

Esthetician Services

The spa’s menu at The Chrysalis includes special treatments, a plethora of facials, and organic ingredients. Timm enjoys administering them all.

“We recently took on derma flash, which is similar to dermaplaning, but it does have a guard on, which has been a new, popular service here,” she says. “We have the Glow 2 machine, which has been a big buzz for us and has been exciting for everybody. It uses an exfoliation and an ultrasound to penetrate hydration in the skin.”

The spa also provides an Oxygen Facial, a popular and effective treatment for distributing oxygen directly into the skin. In addition, the spa carries an array of products they use in their services such as the organic European Eminence line and SkinCeuticals.

“Eminence is beloved by everybody and one of the best companies to work for, because they give back to the world in amazing ways,” Timm says. “And we’re really lucky to have SkinCeuticals, because you cannot open a spa now and offer SkinCeuticals unless you’re fully medical. So, the fact that we’re grandfathered in is a pretty cool opportunity. They’re two very different lines and they go well together because of how different they are.”

“My personal goal as an esthetician is to give the facial I would want to receive,” she says. “And I have two goals: One is that I make the client’s skin the best I can with our time, and the second is making sure they like the experience enough to come back.”
