Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County has reached an acquisition agreement with Michael and Terri Watters to acquire Kids World Daycare Centers. Kids World has operated licensed care in Whatcom County for thirty years and the owners announced in 2019 their intention to retire and began looking for a new operator.
In October of 2019 Boys & Girls Clubs began their effort to acquire the business and has reached an agreement to assume operations on March 1, 2020.
This acquisition retains over 530 licensed care spots in Whatcom County that are desperately needed as the county faces a shortage of licensed care.
The Watters have donated all of the personal property to BGCWC that it takes to operate these Childcare Centers and have worked with Boys & Girls Clubs to deliver a smooth transition without an interruption in care to the families they currently serve. BGCWC will lease the facilities from the current property owners while they determine their long-term course for purchase of the facilities.
Longtime friends and business partners, Bob & Kim Warshawer said “For 30 years, Mike & Terri Watters have operated Kids World Childcare Centers. Throughout these years they have opened their hearts to every family that appeared at their door. We wish them the best in their retirement and hope everyone appreciates their incredible contribution to our kids, families and community. We look forward to the Boys and Girls Club continuing their work and mission”.
“We could not take over operations without their generosity and partnership”, said Heather Powell CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County, “We are excited to extend our service to this community to include licensed care and can’t wait to know all of the new families we will be serving.
