Gallery Syre launches their first open call for art inviting all Whatcom County students, Grades 6 through 13, to submit artwork inspired by the theme “wishes and dreams.” This theme is meant to inspire students to envision a future, to express their inner thoughts, and to represent a world in which they would like to live.
Gallery Syre is home to the permanent exhibition of local artist David Syre. Gallery Syre is hosting this open call to give young artists the opportunity to exhibit in a real gallery environment.
A jury of five people, including David Syre’s art curator Ana Palacio, will select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners and 15 other artists. An exhibition of the chosen works will open at Gallery Syre on December 7th, 2019 and run through February 27th, 2020.
Whatcom County resident students in grades 6-12, and college freshmen who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial school/university or home study program, are invited to express their ideas and views in their preferred medium and to submit a two-dimensional work of art by November 20th, 2019, 11:59 pm.
The work should be on canvas or paper and not larger than 70 x 59 inches. The jury will meet after the submission deadline and select three winners plus 15 other artists. The works of these 18 young artists will be installed at the gallery as a professional art exhibition with printed invitation cards and an official opening on December 7th, 2019.
To apply, students must submit by the November 20th, 2019 deadline a completed application form together with an image of their work of art in JPG or PDF format to gallerysyre@gmail.com. Application forms can be requested at gallerysyre@gmail.com.
