On the morning of September 8, 2019, just over 200 participants gathered at the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center to participate in the 6th Annual Wander to Wander 1K. After some donuts and light calisthenics, the race began. Participants then “wandered” or ran the .62 miles over to Wander Brewing. This event raised essential funds to benefit the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center and their mission to provide and promote collaborative and constructive approaches to conflict.
Rowan Campbell of Bellingham took first place, crossing the finish line in an impressive 3 minutes and 15 seconds. Rowan had a commanding lead on racers trailing him at a wide range of paces – from lightning speed to a relaxed wander. Individuals and teams celebrated their feat with a pint of beer or root beer at the Wander Brew Hall, proudly wearing finisher medals. Rowan was awarded with a single, 23” tall golden letter “K” trophy. A smaller golden “K” was presented to the race’s “Final Wanderer,” Kahlan S.
The WDRC would like to thank Wander Brewing, Chazzzzam Signs & Graphics, Pacific Surveying and Engineering, Spectrum Plumbing, Overhead Door, and Anchor QEA for sponsoring and hosting this successful event, and to all of the returning and new participants this year. WDRC Executive Director, Moonwater stated, “This one of a kind, accessible race gave friends and families of all ages and abilities a chance to come together in good spirit and demonstrate their athletic prowess, all while contributing to such an important cause. We’re thrilled that hundreds of people showed up to support the WDRC’s youth programs – bringing conflict resolution and communication workshops into elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Whatcom County.”
Individuals who missed the Wander to Wander 1K can join the WDRC in celebration at the 17th Annual Peace Builder Awards Gala, November 15th 2019 at 5:30, at the Bellingham Technical College Settlemyer Hall.
