Holiday Lights Obstacle Dash @ G St Plaza

Bring the family out to beautiful downtown Blaine for this family friendly fun dash. A 1.5 mile obstacle run starts off the festivities at 3:00 p.m. at the H Street Plaza, H Street & Peace Portal Drive, Blaine, WA. Day of registration opens at 2:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Blaine Chamber of Commerce, Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2 and Let’s Move Blaine, the course charges up H Street traversing local streets and returning to G Street Plaza. You can either run or walk this course! Click here for a map. Families are encouraged to dress in holiday attire! Medals awarded to the first 100 finishers! Strollers, wagons or sleighs on wheels welcomed for the younger family members.

OPUS Performing Arts is proud to present The Nutcracker in collaboration with Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth (BAAY) on December 5-6 at Mount Baker Theatre. Audiences will enjoy this classic winter ballet with a unique theatrical twist. The Nutcracker features OPUS’ younger ballet students as cupcakes, peppermints, gingersnaps and other denizens of the Kingdom of Sweets, as well as their advanced dancers in the classic roles of Dewdrop, Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy. OPUS Adult Ballet students will also perform in supporting roles throughout the evening. BAAY performers ages 9-16 will be showcased as the infamous rat army, manipulators of large-scale puppets and choral interludes. This exciting new performance is guaranteed to delight viewers of all ages!

The Arthritis Foundation’s original Jingle Bell Run is a fun way to get decked out and be festive, while racing to raise funds and awareness to cure America’s #1 cause of disability. Put on your favorite holiday costume. Tie jingle bells to your shoelaces. ’Tis the season to live it up and be jolly for a reason! Bring a team of friends, family and co-workers to run or walk, spread smiles and good cheer … and be a Champion of Yes! 100 percent of your registration fee and fundraising efforts go to this great cause. Costume contest, kids fun run, 5k run or walk, dog trot. Register early for a discount. Volunteers are always welcome.

The Whatcom Hills Waldorf School’s annual Holiday Faire is a wonder-full way for families to enjoy the spirit of the holidays with live music, magical lands, delicious food, local craft vendors and hands-on workshops. Crafting workshops feature natural materials and include rolling beeswax candles, wooden ornaments, felt projects and translucent paper stars to color your windows. Visit the Snow Queen in her castle, dig for crystals in Gnome Village, watch an enchanting puppet play or warm up with delicious homemade soup, baked goods and live music in the Wooden Spoon Cafe. Everyone welcome!

Prices of activities vary from $1 – $4.

Parking: Free parking is available at The Firs at 4605 Cable St. A free shuttle brings people to and from the school.

Whatcom Chorale “Light in the Darkness” @ Church of the Assumption

Whatcom Chorale’s “Light in the Darkness” concert includes the premiere of local composer Henry From’s “Winter Solstice” with harpist Jill Whitman; Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” for choir and harp; Jason Robert Brown’s “Chanukah Suite;” Daniel Kantor’s “Night of Silence” (Carmen Souza, soloist); and “O Holy Night” (Kim Markworth, soloist).
