Floating Lantern Pet Memorial 2018 @ Bloedel Donovan Park
Sep 9 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Floating Lantern Pet Memorial 2018 @ Bloedel Donovan Park | Bellingham | Washington | United States

Join us for a personal and collective moment of remembrance, reflection and gratitude for the pets who have enriched our lives.

If you would like to decorate and float a lantern, please register in advance. Only a small number of non-reserved lanterns will be available on the day of the event.

If you cannot be present but would like to have a lantern floated for you, you may reserve an absentee lantern. You may pick up and decorate the paper in advance, or a volunteer will decorate the paper for you.

At check-in, you will receive an 18″ X 6″ sheet of transparent paper that can be decorated with memories of your pet. Pens and markers will be provided for your use. You may also bring a photocopy of your pet’s picture (non-returnable) to attach to the paper. A color printer/scanner will be available on-site for folks who only have photos on photo paper. You may scan your photograph and create a paper copy for your lantern allowing you to keep the original. (Photo paper doesn’t allow light to shine through and so does not work well on a lantern.)

When it is complete, volunteers will help you place your decorated paper into a lantern structure.

Then whenever you are ready (physically and emotionally) a lighted path flanked by several hand-bell ringers will guide you to the release point on the beach. Volunteers will be at the release point to assist you.

You are encouraged to stay as long as you like to watch the lanterns and visit with other participants.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., volunteers in kayaks will begin retrieving all lanterns from the lake.

The floating lanterns are made of reusable material and are lit by LED lights. Every single lantern will be retrieved from the water right after the event and a crew will check again the following morning. Reusable parts will be cleaned and stored for future use.

The paper sleeves cannot be returned to you.
