With a warm, flexible contralto, Jennifer Scott is considered an important Jazz Voice; she is an in-demand performer, clinician and teacher of workshops throughout the USA and Canada.
The January concert audience will surely marvel at the artistry and harmonic inventions of Canadian Bill Coon, winner of the National Jazz Awards ‘Guitarist of the Year’. Performing professionally for over thirty years, Coon has played with many significant jazz artists and has more than fifty recordings.
A professional bassist since 1971, Renee Worst is as gifted on fretless as he is on acoustic – a rarity in the industry. He is a founding member of the fusion band “Skywalk” and has anchored and produced six recordings with them.
The Jansen Jazz Band is a 20-30 member community band that performs under the direction of Steve Herrick.
All of the musicians are volunteers, members of the community who enjoy learning and performing.
The Firehall Cafe remains open through intermission offering soups, salads, sandwiches, coffee, beer, wine, and desserts.
A Fairhaven restaurant is meeting the demand for live music and safe socializing by launching a beer and wine garden Friday, May 28.
Skylark’s Hidden Café, a favorite of local residents and tourists since 1995, is opening the outdoor garden from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through September. The first live music performance there will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, May 29 and feature rock ‘n’ roll music from The Three Radicals.
“We know Bellingham residents can’t wait for the return of live music and our local groups need venues to play,” said Brad Haggen, owner of Skylark’s Hidden Café. “The outdoor garden below our patio and behind the restaurant will be a great place for summer relaxation and entertainment.”
The outdoor garden at 1311 10th St. will offer local beers, wine, seltzers and to-go food from Skylark’s. The garden will be covered by a tent previously used on the restaurant’s patio, which will remain open for sun lovers, Haggen said.

The Jazz Center of Bellingham Presents: The Marina Albero Trio
Pianist, composer, and educator Marina Albero is a captivating performer. Albero’s piano playing is an absolute celebration of life, her spirited performances are intelligent, uplifting, and delightfully engrossing.
Albero deftly draws on a lifetime of music tradition, from her native Barcelona in classical as well as flamenco, to Cuba and Son Cubano, to American jazz. The evening will be lively, it will be heartfelt. It may even include a psalterium!
From the Jim Crow era-South through the turbulent 1960s, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone were among the most influential and popular singers of their times. Both within their music and outside of the clubs and concert halls, they wielded their exceptional talents to combat racial prejudice, sexism, and poverty. Feel their music and lives come to life in this tribute produced by Grammy-winning Eli Wolf and performed by Charenée Wade, Camille Thurman, and Tahira Clayton, backed by an all-female band.

The St. Olaf Orchestra, conducted by Chung Park, will perform at the Western Washington Performing Arts Center in Bellingham, WA, on Sunday , October 16 at 7 p.m. during its 2022 Fall Tour. The St. Olaf Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra rich in international artistry and tradition and known for its enthusiastic and passionate performances. Founded in 1906, the 95-member ensemble has been heralded as one of the finest collegiate orchestras in the country, and won the 2013 and 2019 American Prizes in Orchestral Performances among colleges and universities.

Ooh la la! The Bellingham Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 48th Season with a musical journey to France, highlighting the French connection between three composers.
The program begins with Lili Boulanger’s Of a Spring Morning. Next, Héctor del Curto joins the orchestra for ‘Aconcagua’ Concerto for Bandoneon and Orchestra by Astor Piazzolla, a student of Lili’s sister, Nadia.
Praised by the New York Times as a “splendid player,” Grammy-winning musician, composer, recording artist, and educator Héctor Del Curto is one of the world’s most sought–after bandoneonists. Finally, take a musical stroll with Modest Mussorgsky’s descriptive Pictures at an Exhibition, a Russian-composed piece orchestrated by French composer Maurice Ravel.
A Pre-Concert Lecture about the program will take place at 2:15PM in the Walton Theatre. Doors open at 2PM and seating is limited, so please plan accordingly. These lectures are free for ticket-holders.
