The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center (WDRC) is offering an Understanding Conflict Workshop, August 23 and 30, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the WDRC. Pre-registration is required and the cost of the class is $95.00.

This six-hour interactive workshop is part of the WDRC’s Conflict Resolution Education Program. The curriculum is designed to develop participants’ awareness of their own approach to conflict and to increase their skills and capacity to better manage conflict as it arises in their home, community and work environments. It is facilitated by Mary Dumas.

Participants will learn how to:
• Listen actively and assert their needs,
• Understand their own response to conflict
• Communicate effectively in high-stress situations

One community member and past participant described their experience as, “helping me articulate unformed notions and ideas and thoughts. It gave me a language and terminology for resolving conflict and having difficult conversations.”

15th Annual Peace Builder Awards @ BTC Settlemyer Hall | Bellingham | Washington | United States

Each year, the WDRC Peace Builder Awards are an opportunity to celebrate individuals, groups, and organizations that have dedicated their efforts to strengthening community. The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center invites the public to join in celebrating the 2017 recipients.

The 15th Annual Peace Builder Awards Gala, presented by Peoples Bank, takes place November 17, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at BTC’s Settlemyer Hall. Tickets start at $50 and can be purchased at www.whatcomdrc.org, 360-676-0122, or in person at the WDRC. Please RSVP by November 1.

In addition to awards presentations, guests will enjoy a chef-inspired gourmet dinner, live music and Peaceful Poetry Youth Contest readings; as well as a silent auction, wine wall, dessert dash and a grand prize raffle.

All proceeds of the Peace Builder Awards event will benefit the WDRC and their mission to provide and promote constructive and collaborative approaches to conflict.
