Feather and Frond Forest School will be running a 5 Day Nature Camp for children aged 7-12 at Cornwall Park, April 3 to April 7th!
Our Spring Break Nature Camp will provide a host of opportunities for kids to explore the natural world and have fun adventures with friends. We will be digging deep into the Book of Nature using Awareness Games, Sensory Immersion, Wild Edibles/Plant ID, Survival and Earth-based Skills, Scout Skills, Adventuring, Storytelling and more throughout the week. We will likely be getting dirty too!
Our low 6-to-1 Child-to-Mentor ratio means that your child will not be lost in the crowd and will have ample opportunity to bond with their peers and our experienced mentors. This low ratio is one of our keys to providing a top-level program for your young naturalist/adventurer!
More information and online enrollment form can be found at: http://featherandfrond.org/2017-spring-break-camp
If you have any additional questions, please direct them to us at: contact@featherandfrond.org.

Fire brings us warmth, protection, food, light, and so much more! When it’s time to build your fire out in nature, it can be challenging to get it going, especially as the rain starts coming down! In this course, hosted by Bell Creek Nature School and led by Survival Guide Ryan Johnson, practice fire building in the challenging conditions of the Pacific Northwest. We’ll dive into the core rules of survival, different fire configurations, and tips and tricks to find success. At the end of the session, we’ll test different tools and equipment you should add to your pack for fire starting, survival, and adventure!
Snowy prints left behind by winter wildlife can reveal far more than most people know. Was the animal running or walking? Was it hunting? Injured? Pregnant? What other animals was it interacting with?
Instructor Chris Byrd will reveal the hidden world of animals by teaching basic tracking skills near Silver Fir Campground on the Mt Baker Highway. This ecotone includes mature conifer forest and wetlands. He’ll cover identification of genus and species so we know who’s out there, gait interpretation so we understand what was happening, how to age the tracks so we have a sense of time, and behavior to add nuance to the story that emerges.
Participants need to bring snowshoes and poles and each vehicle needs a Sno-Park parking pass as we will be walking on a snowy (but flat) Forest Service road. Winter road conditions increase the risk associated with driving so please assess your comfort level and vehicle’s ability to navigate potentially snowy terrain (road is regularly plowed). Please call our main office if you have any questions or concerns!
