A Night at the Ballpark: Catch A League of Their Own with the Bellingham Bells and Pickford Film Center @ Joe Martin Field
Jul 14 @ 8:45 pm

Take your family and friends out to the ballgame July 14 for a full night of fun as the Bellingham Bells battle the Wenatchee AppleSox, followed by a showing of A League of Their Own right on the field!

The movie follows two sisters (Geena Davis and Lori Petty) who leave their family’s farm in Oregon to bat for the big leagues. Don’t miss Tom Hanks, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell and a cast of quirky and intelligent women navigate the patriarchy and pleasures of playing for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

The movie is free to the public, and will begin after it gets dark. We will be sitting on the field, so bring pillows, blankets and an extra layer in case it gets chilly. The Bells concessions will be open, including pretzels, hot dogs and other summer treats.

To enjoy more free outdoor movie magic with Pickford Film Center this summer, check out our Rooftop Cinema at the Parkade series, with screenings of The Big Lebowski July 27 and Napoleon Dynamite August 24. Check out our website for event information all year long.

Rooftop Cinema: Do the Right Thing @ Commercial Street Parking Garage Rooftop

Our annual Rooftop Cinema series returns again this summer! Spend three Friday nights this summer watching great films on the top story of the Commercial Street Parking Garage, with music, food, drinks, and the best 360 views of Bellingham Bay and beyond.

Friday, July 26 features Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing. Bring a camp chair or a cushion (note some seating is provided) and join us at the Parkade, located on the 1300 block of Commercial Street. There will be four floors of free parking below the event. Bring your friends and family for a delightful summer evening!

Film description: Salvatore “Sal” Fragione (Danny Aiello) is the Italian owner of a pizzeria in Brooklyn. A neighborhood local, Buggin’ Out (Giancarlo Esposito), becomes upset when he sees that the pizzeria’s Wall of Fame exhibits only Italian actors. Buggin’ Out believes a pizzeria in a black neighborhood should showcase black actors, but Sal disagrees. The wall becomes a symbol of racism and hate to Buggin’ Out and to other people in the neighborhood, and tensions rise. This film, “Confirmed Spike Lee as a writer and filmmaker of peerless vision and passionate social engagement. Punctuated by the anthemic refrain of Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power,” Do the Right Thing is a landmark in American cinema, as politically and emotionally charged and as relevant now as when it first hit the big screen.” -The Criterion Collection

Our annual Rooftop Cinema series returns again this summer! Spend three Friday nights this summer watching great films on the top story of the Commercial Street Parking Garage, with music, food, drinks, and the best 360 views of Bellingham Bay and beyond.

Friday, August 9 features Wes Craven’s horror classic Scream. Bring a camp chair or a cushion (note some seating is provided) and join us at the Parkade, located on the 1300 block of Commercial Street. There will be four floors of free parking below the event. Bring your friends and family for a delightful summer evening!

Film description: Wes Craven re-invented and revitalized the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school student in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts – but the victims aren’t always the ones you’d expect. Scream is one of the most successful horror films of all time, and a fan-favorite film.

Warren Miller's Daymaker @ Mount Baker Theatre

This fall, join MBT for the annual celebration that crosses generations and connects us to the comforting constant of snow with Warren Miller’s 73rd annual ski and snowboard film, Daymaker.

In the world today, the ground shifts constantly beneath our feet, and bearings are hard to come by. Warren Miller’s Daymaker will take you on a journey to peaks that replace the mountains in your mind with ones that free your mind. From British Columbia’s Monashee mountains to the throne of Greece’s Olympus mountains, Alaska and beyond, join Crazy Karl Fostvedt, Michelle Parker, Katie Burrell, Daron Rahlves, Ryland Bell, Cam Fitzpatrick, Connery Lundin, and more out on the hill.

We hit Snowmass for the biggest party of the winter, surprise a Warren Miller superfan at the base of Snowbasin, and take him skiing with Jonny Moseley and Marcus Caston. We follow one of Europe’s most legendary mountain guides, rewrite the rules of adaptive backcountry riding, and try to keep up with some of the most exciting young skiers and snowboarders on the planet.
