Learn to weave using a floor loom with Aurora Lindquist! In a series of four Saturday morning sessions, learn to plan a weaving project and what materials to use, warp a loom, and create your own 2’ by 4” rug.

This class runs four consecutive Saturdays starting on 1/16 and wrapping up on 2/6 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Let’s get fancy! In this three day workshop (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) you will learn three ways to customize your clothes without needing a sewing machine. You’ll turn ready made basics into pieces that express your unique style. Using your own clothes or items bought at Ragfinery, you can update your wardrobe with embroidery, applique and printing.

No Sew Braided Rugs @ Ragfinery

Come learn how to craft a beautiful no sew braided rug. This four strand technique eliminates the need for sewing braids together and results in a sturdy rug able to withstand the modern washer and drier. These rugs are a great way to keep worn, torn, ugly or stained fabrics out of the landfill.

Workshop: Reverse Applique Headband @ Ragfinery

Using the Reverse Applique technique, you will turn colorful cotton t-shirts into remarkable accessories. Reverse Applique is the process of sewing fabric layers and then cutting the top layer to reveal colors underneath. Once you are comfortable with this advanced hand sewing method you will be able to use to embellish any clothing or home goods made from cotton knits.

THROW BIG: Ceramics Class with Brian O’Neill @ Jansen Art Center

May 13 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

The Jansen Art Center is pleased to welcome ceramic artist Brian O’Neill to the Ceramics Studio for a one day workshop, Throw Big on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The workshop is aimed at challenging and expanding both technical and conceptual approaches to making pottery. By combining wheel-thrown sections together, large forms are possible without the strain of wrestling many pounds of clay on center.

Demonstrations and hands-on activities will challenge participants to push their technical approach to the point of innovation.

Brian O’Neill is a ceramic artist whose work is represented nationally by galleries and museums. His work is on exhibit at a handful of regional art shows, most recently participating in the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C.

The workshop is limited to 8 students. The class fee is $175, and clay can be purchased at the cost of $20 per bag. This class is limited to adults and teens over the age of sixteen. Basic throwing skills are required.

For this special event at B R U N A, each participant will speak for 30 minutes, sharing their work and perspectives with attendees.

ROSIE Lockie will follow her path from painting to self-publishing by focusing on zine and comic projects and her approach to them vis-a-vis fine art, zines, residency opportunities, and self-direction.

ANDREW Molitor will compare the differences between handmade book bindings and print-on-demand platforms in his own publishing practice.

CULLEN Beckhorn will take us on a meandering trek through the inspirations and changing identity of his project the Emergence newspaper, with meditations on the seasons, comics, death, serialization, tiny things, vast things, etc.

BAILEY Cheney will introduce attendees to the world of risograph-printed zines, providing a brief artistic history, prepping work for print, and zine assembly.
