Heddwen, Larsen Gardens, and Meghan Yates in concert at the Alternative Library, July 20th

The Alternative Library (519 E Maple St.) presents a night of beautifully crafted alternative folk music from Seattle’s Heddwen and Larsen Gardens, joined by Bellingham’s Meghan Yates, on Saturday, July 20th. Doors open at 7:30 pm, music begins at 8:00. All ages welcome, admission $6-10 (sliding scale).

Heddwen is an original alt-folk duo with singer-songwriters Riley Skinner and Katie Rudman, featuring complex harmonies over simple folk progressions. They are based in Seattle, WA.

Larsen Gardens is the project of Seattle-based singer-songwriter Sarah Edmonds, whose intimate lyrics, soft vocals, and buoyant acoustic guitar build ethereal, reflective folk songs.

Meghan Yates is a Bellingham-based experimental joy folk fusion singer-songwriter whose musical career began in Portland, ME. Whether solo or when other players join, the music she creates often uplifts, penetrates and inspires the listener.

?“Havilah’s music moves across genres with ease, glancing against various facets of jazz, country, folk, blues, to stand alone as a thing in itself. Her phrasing is remarkable, syllables stretched slowly with elegance and laid down against and over each other like braids”- Scot Casey, What’s Up Magazine

Drive-In Music Live Concert Series @ Skagit County Fairgrounds

We have RESCHEDULED the first-ever Drive-In Music Live Concert Series at the Skagit County Fairgrounds for THREE weekends in June 2021 with SIX amazing bands. All shows start at 7 pm. Get tickets, grab your family, and invite your friends. Enjoy the music LIVE ON STAGE at a safe and responsible distance.

Drive-In Music Live Concert Series gives the opportunity for music fans to enjoy music in a unique, safe, and socially distanced environment. This concept will allow fans to see LIVE music with drive-in style admission to keep social distancing measures active. Cars are charged per carload, which gets you as many people that can legally be in your vehicle. We recommend filling vehicles with family/household members only. You can still invite your friends and park by each other though! Early Bird tickets are limited and start at $50 with a promo code.

WEEKEND ONE (June 5th, 2021): PETTY FEVER will open the concert series. The multi-award-winning full production tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, featuring the captivating Guitarist/Vocalist and 2016 Hollywood FAME Award Winner, Frank Murray.

Petty Fever is the recipient of multiple entertainment awards which include; Las Vegas FAME Awards 2017 “Outstanding Tribute Band” & 2018 “Outstanding International Tribute Band” presented at Hard Rock Café Live in Las Vegas, NV and 2013 & 2014 Los Angeles Music Awards “Tribute Band of The Year” presented at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood, CA.

Opening up for Petty Fever is Shaggy Sweet – Since 2009, Shaggy Sweet’s eclectic mix of Blues/Rock/R n’ B cover songs and original compositions have been captivating audiences all over the Pacific Northwest. Cover songs spanning multiple decades by Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Beatles, John Mayer, and Tom Petty among much other classic rock and current artists are mainstays of the band’s repertoire, and always have audiences on their feet.

Their dynamic show features both tight arrangements and impressive improv that showcase each of the band member’s talents: Ben James (vocals, acoustic guitar), Aaron Hiebert (vocals, electric guitar), Ethan Gibbons (bass), and Jason Edwards (drums).

WEEKEND TWO (June 12th, 2021): Features independent country artist, Jessica Lynne Witty – A powerfully authentic performer, capable of engaging a diverse range of audiences. This is country music for the people who say they “don’t usually like country!”

Upon moving to the U.S. in 2010, Jessica’s country music career took off like a shot, buoyed by her vocal and songwriting talents, infectious stage presence, and exceptional work ethic. She has opened for stars like Dustin Lynch, Diamond Rio, Keith Anderson, Trace Adkins, Sawyer Brown, and Jeff Foxworthy featured at festivals alongside Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Billy Currington, and Little Big Town, and graced legendary stages like the Gorge Amphitheater and Seattle’s Triple Door theater. Her first Nashville album, Catch Me If You Can, was released in 2016; with her follow-up released in June 2019.

Santo Poco – With songs about rough and tumble characters mixed with emptying whiskey glasses, Santa Poco offers the type of slide guitar-emboldened tunes that float throughout a dusty roadhouse or romping dance hall. Thorough storytelling mixes with mean electric leads that inspire folks to don their ten-gallons, pull the boots up over their denim blue jeans, and hit the town for beer swills and swing dances ’til dawn. Band Website
WEEKEND THREE (June 19th, 2021): Closing out the epic weekend at the Skagit County Fairgrounds is CREEDENCE REVELATION FEATURING RANDY LINDER. This presentation by Randy Linder and his band is second to none. They have entertained audiences from California to New York with the beloved hits that came from CCR between the years of 1968 and 1972 and a few of John Fogerty’s solo hits. Randy has been in the music business since 1968 and has attained National and International status since developing this salute to John Fogerty and CCR in the year 2000.

Recently joining our line-up is RANDY HANSEN’S JIMI HENDRIX REVOLUTION. Are you experienced? Randy Hanson is! Hansen has acquired himself quite a reputation as one of the best Hendrix impersonators on the 3rd stone from the sun. He is one of the few players officially recognized by the Hendrix family. He has been successfully doing his “Hendrix trip” for years and has toured/played with Uli Jon Roth, Jack Bruce, and Paul Rodgers. Randy channels the spirit of Jimi through his Fender strat on the awesome “Hendrix By Hansen” disc.

Today Hansen’s audience is worldwide, through persistent demand by the fans in America and Europe, whether with The Randy Hansen Band or working with other entertainers. Steve Miller, Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company, The Firm, Queen), Buddy Miles, Don Wilson (The Ventures), Alan White (YES, John Lennon), Sammy Hagar, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Cray, Roger Fisher (Heart), Bob Segar and Hendrix alumni Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, are just a few of the many musicians he’s performed with.

Gallowglass, an acoustic Irish band from Bellingham, plays Irish jigs, reels, and polkas with a driving elegance and they arrange traditional songs in surprising and captivating ways.

Bellingham Symphony Orchestra Concert: Resounding Joy ft. Daniel Bolshoy @ Mount Baker Theatre

We finish our 46th season with classical guitarist Daniel Bolshoy joining us for an afternoon of powerful, beautiful, and inspiring pieces by musical giants. If you enjoyed Bolshoy’s guitar mastery during last season’s At Home with Daniel & the BSO, you will love seeing and hearing him in person.

Bolshoy solos on Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Guitar Concerto, the orchestration of which was designed “to give more the appearance and the color of the orchestra than the weight,” according to the composer. Virtuoso Spanish classical guitarist Andrés Segovia used this work as a counterexample to the idea that a solo guitar cannot be heard over an orchestra.

We close with the magnificent Beethoven Symphony No. 5 and our thanks to our community for your support through these challenging times.

Girls Need Guitars – A benefit to provide Guitars Lessons and Songwriting Workshops for Foster Kids in Whatcom and Skagit County.

“Ferron writes of love with the relentless introspection of Leonard Cohen, and, as with classic Bob Dylan, her songs’ tough, questioning attitude sometimes gives way to the unexpected.” – Rolling Stone Magazine

When Canadian singer-songwriter Ferron was 15, she hit the road alone. She had a single shopping bag with a change of clothes, a toothbrush, a waitress uniform, and a Leonard Cohen LP. Little did she know then, but one day her own songs would be compared to Cohen’s for their depth of wordcraft, intimacy, and wisdom
