Wild & Scenic Film Festival @ Maplehurst Farms
Jan 26 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join Viva Farms for a night of great food and movies! Enjoy dinner catered by Pizza’zza while viewing a selection of films from the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. To engage our community in the importance of sustainable agriculture in Skagit County, we are featuring a selection of curated films from the Film Festival held in Nevada City, CA each year. Our film selections revolve around agriculture, sustainability and related topics.
Viva Farms is a small-farm business incubator that preserves sustainable farming, and creates a strong and just food system. We support aspiring farmers by providing bilingual training in sustainable organic farming and access to land, infrastructure, equipment, marketing and capital (The Essentials). We lower the barriers for beginning farmers and create the opportunity for success.
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films from the annual festival held the third week of January in Nevada City, CA which is now in its 15th year. Wild & Scenic focuses on films which speak to the environmental concerns and celebrations of our planet. “Films featured at Wild & Scenic give people a sense of place,” says Tour Associate Director, Amelia Workman. “In today’s busy world, it is easy to disconnect from our role in the global ecosystem. When we realize that the change we need in this world begins with us, we start making a difference. Come get inspired!”
Proceeds from the event support water conservation efforts in our agricultural program.

Evening Family Program with the Reptile Man @ St. Paul's Academy (Markell Hall) | Bellingham | Washington | United States

Scott Petersen, The Reptile Man, is coming to St. Paul’s Academy. As a Zoologist and educator, he has been featured nationally on Disney’s Bill Nye the Science Guy and on PBS’ Biz Kids. He has appeared on Northwest Afternoon, Evening Magazine and NPR Radio. Many corporations such as Microsoft, Boeing and Nintendo have used Scott to educate and entertain.

He will be performing at a K-8 school-wide assembly in the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and coming back in the evening to share more reptiles and engage families (showcasing 12 live reptiles in a 40-minute show that teaches the importance of all animals in nature). The cost is $1 per person for the evening program. Together with friends, you can view the following reptiles: a King Cobra*, an Alligator Snapping Turtle, a Black Mamba*, an Albino Python, an American Alligator and a Large Diamondback Rattlesnake. *All poisonous snakes are surgically devenomized.

Scott has been voted the #1 School Assembly Performance in the Pacific Northwest, so we are pleased to host an evening event for our families and local community to join.
