Wild & Scenic Film Festival @ Maplehurst Farms
Jan 26 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join Viva Farms for a night of great food and movies! Enjoy dinner catered by Pizza’zza while viewing a selection of films from the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. To engage our community in the importance of sustainable agriculture in Skagit County, we are featuring a selection of curated films from the Film Festival held in Nevada City, CA each year. Our film selections revolve around agriculture, sustainability and related topics.
Viva Farms is a small-farm business incubator that preserves sustainable farming, and creates a strong and just food system. We support aspiring farmers by providing bilingual training in sustainable organic farming and access to land, infrastructure, equipment, marketing and capital (The Essentials). We lower the barriers for beginning farmers and create the opportunity for success.
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films from the annual festival held the third week of January in Nevada City, CA which is now in its 15th year. Wild & Scenic focuses on films which speak to the environmental concerns and celebrations of our planet. “Films featured at Wild & Scenic give people a sense of place,” says Tour Associate Director, Amelia Workman. “In today’s busy world, it is easy to disconnect from our role in the global ecosystem. When we realize that the change we need in this world begins with us, we start making a difference. Come get inspired!”
Proceeds from the event support water conservation efforts in our agricultural program.

Evan Whitehead Exhibit @ Jansen Art Center
Feb 2 @ 10:00 am

Freelance artist Evan Whitehead is native to Bellingham, growing up in the foothills of Whatcom County and the North Cascade Range. He attended local schools and Whatcom Community College while enjoying the natural beauty of Mount Baker as his backyard.
The presence of the mountain, along with its beauty and individualism have been a focal point to in Whitehead’s work. He sees Mount Baker as “an icon of boundless creativity, inspiration and individual freedom,” which he works to express through his paintings.
Whitehead is a self-taught artist who creates colorful landscapes inspired by Mount Baker, the surrounding Nooksack Valley foothills and Mt. Shuksan. He paints in acrylic on canvas, murals, walls, rock, wood and fences – just about any surface that is made available.
A natural explorer and avid snowboarder and hiker, Whitehead loves the scenery. He utilizes the resources of the local mountains’ natural, wild beauty and originality to create visual art for others to appreciate “eternally and internally.”
