Planting Seeds of Friendship throughout our Community

Topic: Deer Resistant Planting with Diana Wiesan

The April 3, 2024, meeting of the Birchwood Garden Club will be held in the Rotunda Room of the Old City Hall Museum, 121 Prospect Street, Bellingham, WA 98225. Doors open at 6:30 PM. The speaker for the evening will be Diana Wiesan.

Diana has been a WSU Master Gardener for 32 years and a Skagit Co. Master Gardener Trainer for 20 years. She has served as the Chair of the Outreach and Education Committee and of the Speakers Bureau, and regularly teaches classes to a variety of audiences.

Diana will speak on Deer Resistant Planting. Deer are found almost everywhere and they are one of nature’s most adaptable creatures. This is not good news if you are trying to have a nice garden and the deer are using it as a browsing area. Why does this happen and what can you do about it? Please join us to get a better understanding of the problem and find out how you can deer-proof your garden. There will be a variety of suggested plant lists—yes, no, and maybe.

Birchwood Garden Club membership is open to anyone in Whatcom or Skagit Counties.  You are invited to join us at our monthly meetings where we will have membership brochures to join.  Check out our website, www.birchwoodgardenclub.org to see the fun activities and community services our club does!  You can join us on Instagram and Facebook @ Birchwood Garden Club.

Birchwood Garden Club is offering a number of small grants to organizations in Whatcom or Skagit counties that promote education opportunities in the realm of horticulture, agricultural or related fields.  Applications are being accepted now and will be awarded in January 2025.  For more details and the applications, visit the BGC website at birchwoodgardenclub.org and click on the “Donation/Grant” link.
