The Blue Room Presents | Vika & the Velvets, Full Color Dream, Somerfeld @ The Blue Room

Vika & the Velvets

The hauntingly blue, vintage voice of Vika summons a sentimental response deeply rooted in the hazy psychedelia of yesteryear. The 21 year-old Russian/Egyptian songstress, who came of age playing music in the grungy confines of Spokane, WA, has employed her reverence of rock with the emotional truth of influences like Amy Winehouse to an exacting degree, creating a cemented sound that’s nostalgic beyond her years.

Full Color Dream

Full Color Dream is an independent grunge-pop band from Bellingham, WA crafting music inspired by the the sounds of 90s guitar-driven alt-rock bands and following that thread of inspiration on up through the years to the indie rock music that soundtracked the mid-00s.

Our members hail from backgrounds playing in pop-rock and singer-songwriter projects Fossil Fire and Crooked Neighbours, hard rock projects Feral Moon and Vendovi, and heavy metal projects such as Tome and other San Diego-based heavy and hardcore bands.

Collectively, we’ve been creating and performing music for many years, and our combined backgrounds and influences shine through our music in familiar and unique ways.

The Blue Room Presents | Cozmic Sauce, The Outtatowners @ The Blue Room
Apr 20 all-day
The Blue Room Presents | Cozmic Sauce, The Outtatowners @ The Blue Room

Cozmic Sauce is a collaboration of seasoned musicians from around the globe, based in the Pacific NW, with a bright, modern, and unique sound.  It’s a powerful, horn-driven, irresistibly danceable blend of funk and soul inspired grooves with sparkling vocals and compelling arrangements.

In 2017, the band’s leader, bassist Steven Pearson, originally from London but now based near Bellingham, Washington, met drummer Jim Dunstone, also coincidentally a London native, and the Brit pair began assembling a group of accomplished musicians to perform music that nobody else around here is playing.

With up to five horns leading rousing instrumental numbers, mixed with tunes featuring the vocals of the phenomenally talented Carrie Bieber, the band throws down an exciting and diverse live show every time.

Drawing on modern funk and groove sounds from the likes of The New Mastersounds, Speedometer, The Bamboos, and Galactic, and weirdly influenced by 70s cop show theme music, the group has a growing following and a reputation for tight arrangements, quality musicianship, and high energy shows.

All the players in the group have broad stage experience, with various members having performed in bands with luminaries including soul queen Etta James, gigged with up and coming Seattle reggae artist Adrian Xavier, toured with reggae and rock steady giant Winston Jarrett, made multiple appearances at the internationally famous Burning Man event in Nevada, and have opened for the legendary BB King.  With performances at the wildly fun Strange BrewFest in Port Townsend, the prestigious Blaine Harbor Music Festival, and the Washington Brewers Festival at Seattle’s Marymoor Park, the state’s largest brewfest, Cozmic Sauce is gaining attention and gigs throughout the Northwest and beyond.

The OuttaTowners are a five-piece band blending jazz/rock/pop. Tyler Rogers, an accomplished saxophone player and endorsed artist in the Seattle-area brought together the following musicians: Savanna Woods, is an accomplished and highly sought after singer making appearances on season 20 of The Voice and securing a spot on Kelly Clarkson’s team. Luca Cartner, is an in-demand drummer around the greater Seattle-area playing with likes of the Delvon Lamar Organ Trio and other local favorites. Matthew Crissey, is a bass player and recording engineer who has worked and played on numerous projects around the Seattle-Tacoma area and got his training from the University of Washington. Jacob Martin, is a talented keyboard/piano player and composer writing and playing his compositions for multiple groups around the Seattle-area.

Beach cleanup for Earth Week! @ Meet at parking lot near 1000 Hilton Ave (I & J Waterway, Bellingham. Map)
Apr 20 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Pick up beach cleanup supplies, refreshments, and join us on Bellingham’s waterfront to prevent trash from getting into Bellingham Bay!

To combat plastic pollution in the Salish Sea, we host beach cleanups — as well as cleanups along rivers and lakes — throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties, providing cleanup equipment and a place to connect with like-minded community members.

Plastic pollution is a concern for water quality and wildlife everywhere, and has even been discovered in drinking water and table salt worldwide. Recent research found that Pacific Ocean juvenile fish have been consuming microplastic particles in their first days of life, with not-yet understood health consequences.

RSVP not required, but helps us get an idea of how many people to expect. Thank you for keeping waterways clean!
